On April 21, a tiger dubbed Gryazny (Dirty) was found washed ashore dead. It happened near the borders of Leopardovy Wildlife Refuge when local anglers spotted the dead body of the predator washed up on shore. The tiger was fitted with a radio collar.
A necropsy on the carcass will be performed on April 24 in order to determine the exact cause of tiger's death and to find out how the animal turned out in cold water. A preliminary examination of the dead body did not reveal any signs of violent death.
The tiger is likely to be radiocollared by the specialists of Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution in 2011 and was named Dirty as he roamed in the Gryaznaya (Dirty) River Valley. The predator was famous for his regular visits to local villages and several attacks on livestock. Since the tiger was fitted with a collar it has killed ten domestic animals - horses, cows and calves. Given that, it was decided to catch the tiger and translocate it in a remote area. However, all the attempts to catch the predator failed.
A necropsy will show the exact cause of death of the tiger and explain why its body was found in water.
