Khabarovsk Territory Governor Vyacheslav Shport has approved an action plan for the preservation of the Amur tiger for 2016−2020. Under the plan, measures to increase the tiger population will be taken in eight areas.
One of them provides for redoubling efforts against poachers, including by training more inspectors and by strengthening cooperation with the customs services to prevent the export of tiger skin and derivatives. Steps will also be taken to preserve and rehabilitate the tigers’ habitat.
Other measures include the further development of the animal rehabilitation system, in particular by improving the territory’s animal rehabilitation centre at the Sikhote-Alin Nature Reserve.
Par ailleurs, après un travail intensif de nettoyage des berges de l'Amour cet été, il a été constaté une augmentation considérable des populations de tortue à carapace molle, espèce très rare de la région. Peter Osipov, représentant de la branche WWF - Amour "ceinture verte", a mis en lumière la présence et le développement de ces animaux dans un marigot proche du centre ville de Khabarovsk, alors que celle ci était cantonnée dans le sud du bassin de l'Amour jusqu'à ces dernières années.
