UNE ETOILE DES NEIGES DISPARAÎT.
Lyuti ("Féroce") est mort, à l'âge respectable de 21 ans. Animal doux et jovial, il impressionnait surtout par sa taille.
Il ne chercha à attaquer un être humain qu'à une occasion, en 2004, dans des circonstances bien particulières, à la stupéfaction de tous.
Celui qui subit son attaque, Youri Trouch, était un officier de "L'Inspection Tigre", chargé de la gestion des conflits entre grands fauves et humains. Il avait abattu, le 21 Décembre 1997, un tigre tueur d'hommes qui sévissait dans le district de la rivière Bikin depuis plusieurs semaines. L'écrivain John Vaillant a consacré un ouvrage passionnant à cet épisode homérique (voir "Pamiat : la mémoire", publié sur ce blog le 9 septembre 2010).
Par la suite, les autochtones dirent à Trouch qu'il était marqué d'une tâche indélébile reconnaissable seulement par les tigres.
En 2004, Trouch accompagna Sacha Snow, qui tournait un film sur son histoire pour la Société de production SCANDINATURE, au centre de réhabilitation de la faune sauvage, dirigée par Vladimir Krouglov..
Quand Lyuti repéra Trouch, cet animal (qui aimait se faire gratter sous le cou par Krouglov) changea complètement de comportement. Il se jeta contre la clôture comme s'il voulait la renverser. Trouch tomba à la renverse comme s'il avait été mis au tapis par la seule énergie que ce tigre projetait sur lui.
Il expliqua par la suite : "Il existe peut - être une sorte de champ biologique . Peut être les tigres perçoivent ils des liens cosmiques."
Par ailleurs,"Lyuti Zver", "la Bête féroce", qui attaqua Vladimir Monomaque, Grand Prince Kievien, à la fin du 11ème siècle, lors d'une de ses opérations de capture de chevaux sauvages dans les marais entre Turov et Tchernigov, a fait l'objet de controverses parmi les naturalistes. Vladimir Heptner, en 1969, a conclu qu'il ne pouvait s'agir, en l'occurence, que d'un tigre eurosibérien.

We are sorry to have to share the news that Lyuti (Ferocious), male Amur tiger, the oldest resident of the Utyos (Cliff) Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, died on April 18.
Lyuti was 21 years of age when he died. The animal did not suffer from any disease, however Lyuti did not want to eat, drink and move for a couple of
days. It is obvious that the tiger died of old age. As you may know, on average, tigers live for 10 to 15 years out in the wild and 16 to 20 years in captivity.
Lyuti was the first resident of the Utyos Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre (Khabarovsky krai, Russian Far East) and became famous for its teeth made of platinum and gold. In 1991, being a small
orphaned cub, he was found by lumbermen. They tried to trap it and broke his teeth. That time Lyuti acquired artificial gilt canines. Otherwise he would have died from hunger. Since then, Lyuti
has found shelter at the Utyos Centre. Local people as well as people from foreign countries fell in love with Lyuti and sent donations to provide him with food and medical care when necessary.
Lyuti was often in the limelight; Russian and foreign journalists produced a series of films and articles to promote Amur tiger conservation.
On March 26, 2008 a team of 15 veterinarians operated Lyuti again as he had been suffering from toothache for more than a month. Despite his old age, Lyuti endured the two-hour operation quite
well. A week passed, and the animal restored his high spirits and good appetite, sparkling with his brand new tooth.
We are mourning the loss of Lyuti. He will be sadly missed and always remembered.
