March 22 World Water Day in Krasnoyarsk opens VI International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rivers of Siberia".

Conference on "Rivers of Siberia" was first held in Krasnoyarsk, and will address issues of preservation of water resources, including management of anthropogenic load on river basins Angara and Yenisei.

These issues are discussed by representatives of public and government agencies at the conference, organized by: Krasnoyarsk Regional Public Environmental Organization Dams, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the coalition "Rivers Without Borders, Krasnoyarsk State Pedagogical University. Their participation in this event was confirmed by representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Control Service of Natural Resources of Krasnoyarsk Region, Yenisei Rosrybolovstva Management, Office of Rospotrebnadzor, RTN, as well as experts from leading academic institutions in Siberia: SB RAS, Siberian Federal University, FEB RAS.

Are invited to participate as members of the Legislative Assembly of Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Administration of Krasnoyarsk, the management of OAO RusHydro, UC Rusal, OAO Gorevsky GOK.

The issue of big dams on the rivers Angara and Yenisei is one of the most pressing environmental problems of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Environmentalists urged the public and the government to pay close attention to the need for compliance with environmental safety standards in the construction of the Angara cascade of hydropower plants.

At the conference, representatives of WWF and the organization of Dams "ozvuchat" the outcome of the public campaign to collect signatures under an appeal to Russian President called for an assessment of the environmental impact of construction Boguchanskaya HPP.  Today has already collected over 5000 signatures.  Environmentalists will discuss the situation and suggest the most likely ways to solve problems.
